Safe Nano
Safe Nano- enabling the United States to compete globally in the production and use of engineered nanomaterials without adverse effect to the ecosystem and humans.
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory coordinated research capabilities allow us to predict biocompatibility/toxicity of engineered nanomaterials. These demonstrated capabilities will help enable the United States to compete globally in the production and use of engineered nanomaterials without adverse effect to human and ecosystem health.
Biological activity and fate of nanomaterials are poorly predicted from their chemical constituents or bulk properties. PNNL's integrated approach represents new capabilities for dosimetry, screening for inflammatory response, integrated biosignature discovery and mode of action indicators. Models incorporating these new capabilities will provide powerful predictive tools needed to direct our future nanomaterial investments and developments.
